OAAOM Mission Statement

The Ohio Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine was established in March of 2002 to serve as an official representative and advocate for acupuncture in Ohio. As an association of registered acupuncturists, allied health professionals, students, and friends the OAAOM serves as an official representative and spokesperson for acupuncture in Ohio. We are dedicated to the protection of the philosophy, science, and art of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

Holding safety for the public as a primary concern, the OAAOM wishes to ensure high standards for the competent and ethical practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. To this end, we support certification in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as it is the most rigorous, nationally recognized standard that qualifies acupuncturists to practice.

Advocating for patients who desire direct access to acupuncture and Oriental medicine treatment is a priority for the OAAOM. We will seek to raise the profile of acupuncture and Oriental medicine and promote it as a viable treatment option by focusing on educating the public, other health professionals, state regulators, and legislators about the benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine as seen from both its long history of use as well as current research.

Promoting public availability to acupuncture through its further use in integrative and Western medical settings and supporting inclusion of acupuncture to third party reimbursement plans is a goal of the OAAOM.

Maintaining standards of educational and professional competence is of primary concern for the OAAOM. Providing quality continuing education for acupuncturists in the form of NCCAOM-approved Continuing Education Credits within the State of Ohio is essential to our mission of offering the best in acupuncture care.
